In late March, early April 2015, this bucket list item checked. Big Bend National Park, and the many cities and attractions in the region did not disappoint. In fact, we would place Big Bend second only to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon of the national parks we have visited thus far. it is that grand!
Traveling to Midland from our Houston base, it is quite the drive to Big Bend. Over eight days of meandering West Texas, we put 1200 miles on our rental. Our stops including Fort Davis (highly recommended!), Chisos Mountain Lodge in the park, Alpine & Marfa. One of the highlights was traveling the River Road (Texas Farm to Market 170), from Presidio to the entrance of the Park. Take your time during this drive, scenic and couple hikes worth your time.
This is also the ultimate get away. Cell phone coverage is spotty, as well as watching TV unless in one of the small citiies in the area. The scenic grandeur and remoteness of the location will astonish you.
